Fortress II by soulburn3d Fortress II by soulburn3d
Here's a finished painting based on a quick speed painting from a few years back. The sucky bit was, I made the original speed painting at a tiny resolution (like 600 pixels wide), so when it came time to do the final painting, I had to upres a lot of layers (which frequently involved repainting them from scratch) before I could modify it and improve on it for the final.

Hi, I absolutely love your work, I imagine visions of the future all the time along with many other people around the world, and I can see similar scenes, there is a top quality website called abovetopsecret.com which is full of conspiracy, Armageddon and end times prediction threads, hundreds of thousands of people use the message boards for civilised discussions every day, who are not artistic at all but they will connect with your artwork like it was one of there own visions, just as I have done.

I am putting together a thread for the website with an emphasis on the fact that if millions of people around the world have such vivid imagination, dreams and vision of the future, then surely looking beyond all the end of the world prophesy almost proves in a way that the future is still to come in one form or another.

I am asking you for your permission to feature your artwork along with around twenty other artists, on the site, in the thread, with strict instructions not to copy it, and with full recognition to you, so that people can appreciate the dreams and visions of others and perhaps look beyond the panic of the demise of the human race, with all the Armageddon discussion and be prepared to fight for a better way of life for all.

There is no financial gain or any other benefit for me or anyone else by doing this, it is simply to get exposure for your artistic vision, and help others take a look outside the box.

I won't feature your work without permission and I will link you to the thread if it is given.

Kind regards, Ed

Thanks for the compliment. It's all about practice, if you do anything enough you'll improve, I wish I had more time to devote to painting so I could be better, but it's tough when you have the fulltime job and a family.

This pic is just amazing. Too bad the res is not that high otherwise it would've been my desktop background. :P Guess I'll leave your "Day's End" one on.

600px, was this for a sig? ;) Very nicely done, the hazy atmo work doesn't feel overdone and gives a massive scale to the structures.

Thanks DeepBlu. Actually, I was doing these quick little thumbnail paintings, I made them really small so I'd focus on the big shapes, and not worry so much on the small details. But then when I was painting this one, I sorta fell into detail mode and painted way more small details than I should have. So my rough painting actually looked more like a finished painting, except it was at a tiny resolution. I'll do my best to avoid that situation again in the future, either by resing up the moment I decide to add small details, or just by being more careful to not add small details if I'm painting small.

Oh a happy accident it seemed, the mark of any upwardly progressing artist. I started dA doing smaller web only sizes and have been trying to up the game to decent print size. My God, it's a whole different game, takes much more time to hammer in the details, but there's a response and satisfaction when you do. I've found hi-res stock and brushes offered by fellow dA artists a great help...

I tend to use my own photos and make my own brushes. Not that using premade stuff is a bad thing, it's just I like the idea of my stuff being a little more unique. But ya, getting those tiny details in there can certainly be time consuming. I frequently use 3d elements in my more finished pieces to help me along, although this particular piece is 99% painted in photoshop.

I can see that. You have a formidable amount of experience, I'm still a noob at this sci-fi art stuff nor a decent camera so I need a little help in some areas...
