Neil Blevins
Artist | Professional | Digital Art
United States
I've been an artist for as long as I can remember. Raised in Canada on a healthy dose of scifi and fantasy films, books, and videogames, I began painting and drawing traditionally, and then got into the computer, making 3d graphics and painting in 2d digitally. Professionally, I've created art for animated features, live action, videogames, TV, ride films and album art for companies like Blur Studio, and Pixar, where I currently work as a Technical Director.

Designing An Epic Starship Part 2: Detailing The Trench

35 min video, $2
(Gumroad, accepts Credit Card only) gum.co/COml
(FastSpring, accepts Credit Card and Paypal) sites.fastspring.com/soulburns…icstarshippart2detailingthetrench

This multi-part tutorial discusses designing an epic starship in Photoshop, starting with the silhouette, then moving on to refining the shape, and ending in detailing. While the final results look dimensional, 90% of the work is actually done in 2d in photoshop, achieving 3d looking results with only the most minor 3d work involved. Part 2 starts with taking one of the ship designs from part 1, coming up with a story on which to base the function of the ship, refining the shape, and then detailing the trench area.

Thank you Neil. You've made a great impact on how I will be doing future ships.
This was a quick render, but if you could take a peek and pls let me know if I'm heading in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great day.
