Xeelee Sequence Resplendent The Worlds Of Man Fell by soulburn3d
Xeelee Sequence Resplendent The Worlds Of Man Fell
Fan art of the book "Resplendent", part of Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Sequence. Space is filled with the red glow of ionized gas nebulas, the remains of a thousand red giant stars, aged before their time. But for this star, its fate is to be extinguished by a different force, signaling the end of man's conquest of the galaxy. I wanted to give that feeling of the last bit of sunlight hitting the planet before the solar system goes dark. This was a surprisingly tough piece because it needed to be dark because that was the narrative, but if it was too dark, the viewer can't see the painting (you always have to consider that each person's monitor will have a different brightness, making it hard to do subtle darkness). Hopefully I hit a good balance.

Xeelee Sequence Vacuum Diagrams The Edge by soulburn3d
Xeelee Sequence Vacuum Diagrams The Edge
This image is based on the short story "Vacuum Diagrams", part of Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Sequence. Humans discover and build a settlement on a giant glowing white cube (known as a Sugar Lump) floating in space, an artifact left behind by a technologically advanced race. Gravity works strangely on the Sugar Lump, and its purpose has huge ramifications for the known Universe.

United States
I've been an artist for as long as I can remember. Raised in Canada on a healthy dose of scifi and fantasy films, books, and videogames, I began painting and drawing traditionally, and then got into the computer, making 3d graphics and painting in 2d digitally. Professionally, I've created art for animated features, live action, videogames, TV, ride films and album art for companies like Blur Studio, and Pixar, where I currently work as a Technical Director.

Welcome to the Dec Update, probably the final update for the year, but next year we have monthly updates of pictures and behind the scenes info, so expect a lot more stuff to come a lot faster real soon. In the meantime, two last orders of business for 2014.

First, we now have an official Inc facebook page, blog and tumblr...

Please like or follow your prefered site if you want to get all the most up to date info about the project. And please invite others who you think would be interested to follow along as well. I will continue to post some info on my other personal social media pages (soulburn3d Facebook page, soulburn3d twitter, etc), but the majority of the updates will now go on these sites.

And second, our first Inc Teaser Poster is in the gallery. I think it gives a pretty good indication of the tone of the project.

Thanks everyone for all your comments and input in 2014, next year is the team finishing the book and then sending it off to the publisher. I am so excited to get Inc finished and want to get it to you guys as soon as possible. But good things come to those who wait, and I want to make sure that the final product you get is of the highest quality, so a little waiting is going to be necessary. Thanks for the support, see you first thing in 2015!
